Colin Gracie

Colin formed Inspyer Ltd in 2002, Inspyer is a Reliability Engineering Company focused in the promotion of plant reliability techniques and specialising in high end vibration technology.

Colin has over 40 years background in engineering with 30 years focused on Reliability Engineering. Colin started like most engineers tinkering with cars then progressed to trains – Colin completed his apprenticeship with NZ Railways. He then moved on to Hydro Power Generation where he obtained the position of Station Maintenance supervisor for a number of years.

Colin’s next move in 1979 was into the Pulp and Paper Industry, New Zealand Forest Products, where after a life changing injury Colin became involved in Vibration and ultrasound testing. The next 23 years Colin focused on plant reliability and improvement issues covering all areas of Advanced Vibration Technology, Planned Maintenance, CMMS projects, Proactive Maintenance, Lubrication Engineering, NDT technologies, Predictive Maintenance, Project Administration, Plant performance improvements, Reliability Engineering and Failure Analysis projects.

Colin has been involved in developing a number of computerised systems from lubrication planning programs to various vibration monitoring programs. He was also heavily involved in developing CHH Pulp and Paper world best practice standards and techniques. The CHH Whakatane Mill as audited by International Paper Technology team was considering one of the top three performers in the International Paper Group in the area of Reliability technologies. The Whakatane Mill maintained world class OEE figures for the last four years of Colin’s employment.

Colin is one of the foundation members of VANZ and became President in 1998 dedicating himself to the promotion and active growth of the Vibration and Reliability Technology in New Zealand.
